Halloween Ideas!

Ah, October. The month where the weather isn't as hot as the Sahara, where Starbucks breaks out its famous delicious Pumpkin Spice lattes and Salted Caramel frappuccinos, where Disney Channel/ABC Family finally plays all our favorite (and cheesy) childhood spooky movies, and best of all: Halloween.
Although it's not for another 25 days, I've got some ideas if you're stuck on what to be. Enjoy!

Ariel from The Little Mermaid
Easy! Just head to your nearest American Apparel and pick up a sea-green colored maxi skirt. Pair it with (if you're feeling daring) a cute purple bandeau or a purple tank top. Cute accessories include a starfish clip that you can grab from Etsy, and a fork. If you feel like going the extra mile, Joanne's fabrics has tons of different colored sequined fabrics that you can buy: take a sheet of it, and tie it around your waist like you would with a Hawaiian sarong. Just be sure to wear some cute green spandex underneath! You can also search for red wigs online too if you feel your hair isn't mermaid-y enough.

Black Cat:
Good news, this costume is extremely versatile! You can wear anything from a black skater or bodycon dress, to a bustier with a circle skirt (shown in photo), or leather pants with a tank. My take, in the photo above, includes a black circle skirt and black bustier. For makeup, take black eyeliner and draw whiskers and a little black nose on your face, wear a cat eye with liquid liner, and bold red lipstick. Top the look of with black flats (they even make kitty flats now!) or chunky heels like the JC Lita.

Pawnee Goddess:
Are you a huge TV freak like me? My favorite show of all time is NBC's Parks and Recreation. If you're obsessed with the show like me, you'll know all about Leslie Knope's Pawnee Goddesses. Sport this look for halloween with shorts, a lavender or purple colored t-shirt/tank top, sneakers, a green colored bandana around your neck, and a homemade Pawnee Goddess vest. Go the extra mile by drawing a Pioneer girl watching her grandmother get trampled by a buffalo on your arm.

Pebbles Flintstone:
In a HUGE rush to create a last minute cute costume? No worries! Pebbles Flintstone from The Flintstones is just a couple steps away! Take an oversized lime-green tee from a craft store (it will probably be about $3-4), some black fabric, and a turquoise body con skirt or spandex shorts. Take the oversized tee and cut the sleeves out, and make the bottom jagged. Cut out random geometric shapes out of the black fabric and sew (or staple....i have definitely done this before in a time crunch) them onto the tee. throw it on over the body con skirt, and tie your hair into a high ponytail! If you are doing this long beforehand, Etsy has cute bone clips that you can attach to your ponytail for the full look.

Adventure Time Characters:

Finn/Fionna
The best cartoon of the century is hands down, Adventure Time. Create Finn and Fionna's looks with very simple and basic pieces! All you need really, are light blue tops and dark blue bottoms (shorts for Finn, skirt for Fionna), black shoes (see above), a nifty green backpack, and a cute white animal hat (Available on Etsy!). All you Comic Con and Anime Expo goers can even reuse this costume for that time of year!

Princess Bubblegum
Be the girl Finn is head over heels with in a cute, home made Princess Bubble costume! Key word here is pink. Lots of pink! A cute bright pink skater dress paired with a purple belt and some simple pink ballet flats is a very quick way to throw together this outfit. Etsy makes Princess Bubblegum's signature crown, and if you want to achieve her signature long bubblegum-colored hair, tons of online stores or even Halloween stores offer this! If a wig is out of the question for you, consider picking up some temporary pink dye from your local beauty store to dye your hair or your ends pink.

Lydia Deetz:
Tim Burton's Beetlejuice is the definition of Halloween. Actually, most of his movies are...Either way, if you wanna narrow down a costume from his characters to one, Lydia Deetz is the perfect choice. It's simple. Black on Black on Black! Take everything black you own and I'm sure you can put together an outfit for her with it. My take includes a black sweater, a black tulle skirt, black tights, black flats, black nail polish, and of course: a black sun hat. It's simple, really! Top it off with some gel to create her signature bangs, and a camera around your neck.

Rugrats babies:
Take a spin on your childhood with a Rugrats costume! The show has tons of characters so you have a lot to choose from. My personal favorite would be Angelica, because you get to accessorize like no other. Go crazy with these! Etsy is the place for any pre made tshirts, like Chuckie's, and there's always the option of creating your own with basic pieces and sew on fabrics and patches.

Wednesday Addams:
This is a classic costume for all you who want to take a step on the goth side. Wednesday from The Addams Family is a misanthropic little girl, so black is the main theme of this outfit. Luckily, her signature dress is very in style at the moment so it wouldn't be so hard to find one (make sure it's black with a white collar!). Pigtail braids and tights complete the outfit!
The Statue of Liberty:
Represent America with this out of the blue costume! Simply pair a skirt and tank together in the same color range (turquoise, teal, etc). Drape a long cloth, toga-style, over the outfit in a sheer version of the color. Add a Lady Liberty headpiece (on Amazon), a fake torch, teal MAC lipstick, and some teal nail polish. Top it off with some teal face paint!

Toddler Pageant Queen:
Everyone's favorite guilty pleasure, Toddlers and Tiaras, has us disgusted and amazed at the little girls going all out in heaps of makeup, enough hairspray to destroy the air, and their signature fake spray tans. For a hilarious take on this outfit, take a simple pink (or any BRIGHT color of your choice) tank, a poofy tutu or petticoat, and blinged out EVERYTHING. Tease your hair to the extreme (or even get a blonde wig), use a temporary fake tan, and carry a blinged out pacifier on a necklace around your neck. Make Honey Boo Boo proud!

What are you thinking of being for Halloween? Did any of these choices help?
Have a happy October! ^~^

xo, Alexa
